UC Los Angeles Non-Senate Faculty
Professional Development Fund
2009-2010 Call for Applications


In accordance with the UC-AFT Memorandum of Understanding, Article 9, the University has created a fund for professional development of Non-Senate Faculty (NSF) members.  The purpose of these awards is to provide support for the professional development of an NSF member.  The Non-Senate Faculty Council on Professional Development, a committee of four current non-senate faculty members is charged with reviewing applications for these funds and making recommendations on awards to the Vice Provost, Faculty Diversity & Development.


Eligibility

Funds are available for use by all UCLA NSF, regardless of type or length of appointment. Award Criteria

Awards will be granted according to the potential benefit to the professional development of the Non-Senate Faculty member, the feasibility of the project, and its potential contribution to the university community. Funds awarded in response to this October 2009 call for proposals must be used by June 30, 2010.


Types of Awards

Up to $500
Travel to attend a conference, workshop or professional meeting.

Up to $750
Travel to a conference in order to deliver a presentation.

Up to $1500
Support for a project that assists the individual’s professional development. This may include funding to assist with curriculum development, books, software, etc. This category also includes up to $1200 for foreign travel to a conference or professional meeting.


Application Process

Applicants should submit their application materials either as an electronic submission (preferable) or in paper form to Lori Davison, (310) 206-7411, ldavison@conet.ucla.edu, Faculty Diversity & Development, 3134 Murphy Hall, Box 95145, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1405. If submitting in paper form, please enclose five (5) copies of all application materials.


Application Deadline

Wednesday, November 4, 2009


Applications must include

  1. A completed application form.

  2. A detailed description of the project or activity, expected results, and significance for the applicant’s professional development and enhancement of teaching (approximately 500 words).

  3. Copies of any relevant correspondence.

  4. A timetable and budget, including a list of other sources of support (if any) that will be combined to comprise the funding required.

  5. The applicant’s curriculum vitae.

The next call for awards will be made in October 2010, covering activities in Fiscal Year 2010-11, between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011.
